QUESTIONS

Questions About Rev

Here are answers to a few of the things people ask us most.

Is Rev Kombucha alcoholic?
It would take about 24 ten-ounce servings of Rev Kombucha to equal the alcohol in one standard drink. Rev Kombucha is a fermented tea, and for most people, it feels no different from any other non-alcoholic beverage in normal drinking. Under federal rules, our kombucha is considered non-alcoholic. For those who want the technical detail, the federal line is 0.5% alcohol by volume (ABV), and Rev is typically around 0.25% ABV or less, which is comfortably below the legal limit.

How much sugar is in Rev Kombucha?
Rev flavors are brewed using only the organic cane sugar needed to promote fermentation. No sugar or juice is added post-fermentation. Like all kombucha, Rev begins with a small amount of sugar that the culture uses during fermentation, so only a small amount remains in the finished drink. Rev contains about 5 grams of sugar per 10 oz serving, or about 1¼ teaspoons, which is fairly low for a beverage. By comparison, that is far less than soda, juice drinks, sweet tea, or many bottled kombuchas. We use high-quality organic teas, herbs, and botanicals to create a flavorful, tea-forward raw kombucha without relying on added juice or excess sweetness. For example, the cherry-like note in our Cherry Sour comes from a blend of hibiscus flower, African honeybush, and Japanese sencha.

Does Rev Kombucha contain caffeine?
Yes, Rev Kombucha contains some naturally occurring caffeine because it is brewed with real teas and botanicals. The amount is much lower than coffee, but Rev is not caffeine-free. The exact amount can vary by flavor because each recipe uses a different blend of teas, herbs, and botanicals. Some flavors include ingredients such as Japanese sencha, yerba mate, oolong, black tea, yaupon, or guayusa, while others lean more heavily on hibiscus, honeybush, chamomile, lemongrass, and other botanicals.

Everyone’s sensitivity to caffeine is different. Some of us avoid coffee later in the day but can still enjoy Rev Kombucha at night without it affecting our sleep. If you are very sensitive to caffeine, it is best to think of Rev as a lightly caffeinated tea-based beverage.

Can Rev Kombucha be served as a non-alcoholic alternative to beer or cocktails?
Yes. Rev Kombucha is refreshing on its own and also makes a delicious base for chef-crafted mocktails. It gives guests a festive, flavorful option that feels more sophisticated than a typical soft drink. For non-drinking guests, Rev offers an adult alternative to water or soda. It is especially popular for weddings, parties, and wellness events, where hosts want a thoughtful non-alcoholic option their guests will be happy to choose.

What does “raw kombucha” mean?
At Rev, “raw” means our kombucha is a living, unpasteurized fermented tea made in small batches from premium organic teas, herbs, botanicals, and filtered water. Many people are drawn to raw kombucha because it is less processed and closer to the traditional, living character of kombucha. At Rev, that raw quality is guided by carefully selected ingredients, controlled fermentation, strict brewing standards, and refrigeration designed to maintain a clean, balanced, tea-forward drink. It also appeals to people looking for a thoughtfully crafted fermented tea with live cultures, plant-derived ingredients, and tea-derived antioxidant compounds.
